I’m Becky, and just like you, I have a hurry-here-hurry-there kind of life. With a full time career and 3 hungry, growing boys, my husband and I juggle getting fresh meals on the table each morning and night. And let’s not forget the “heavy” snacks needed before baseball, basketball or dare I say it, football practice. We all have our own time challenges and at On The Go Bites our mission is to make YOUR life easier. We share our tips, tricks and hacks to get you out the door easier, faster and less frazzled with quick and easy meals.
My family has gotten used to me grabbing their dinner plate before they can eat it to snap a photo for the blog. Or finding extra special treats like decadent brownies or savory snacks like sandwiches brimming with sliced meat and juicy tomatoes luring them over, only to find a note from me “Please save for photos, then it’s up for grabs”.
I want my family and myself to eat healthy meals without going to the drive through or asking what take out they want tonight. That means quick and easy meals and snacks with simple ingredients. I also want variety, so we’ve crafted traditional meals and snacks with a twist as well as new trending ingredients or meal ideas. Point being, we want to make your life easier and more delicious. Period!
You will find some recipes take only a handful of minutes to prepare. Others may have quick prep, but may take several hours to cook, like a slow cooker reicpe. Those are for the days you can start dinner early, but with the short prep time you have your hands and your time free to get other things done…like read your favorite magazine. When was the last time you did that? I always grab a magazine when driving carpool, inevitably we all end up waiting a few minutes in the parking lot for the practices to end, that’s my “me” time to read magazines and relax. Or scour my phone on Pinterest for beautiful food pictures or DIY ideas.

OUT THE DOOR IN MINUTES
The purpose of On The Go Bites recipes is for portable, easy to handle food, this usually means quick and easy, sometimes it does not necessarily mean fast. Sometimes prep is only 15 minutes but the cook time is several hours, good point would be a slow cooker recipe. If a recipe takes longer than 20 minutes or so then we supply you with freezing tips so that it can be ready at a moment’s notice by pulling the treat out of the freezer and reheating in a toaster oven or microwave. If you want a recipe that is completed in 15 minutes or less then go to the Out The Door In Minutes section. These “recipes” are more ideas than complex recipes, but who doesn’t need a little nudge every now and then to get out of the rut of the same old thing. Or worse, cruising through a drive through for a sodium filled breakfast and land fill packaging!
Now that you are armed with Grab ‘n Go ideas, what is the best way to store, reheat and package these snacks and meals? The HOW TO section gives you ideal tips on how and when to freeze food, the best way to reheat them and unique wrapping/packaging ideas to keep them neat and easy to eat.
For those of us who have kids, the need for snacks that can double as mini meals is a daily dilemma. Whether it’s a snack that needs to sit in the backpack all day until baseball practice or dance rehearsal, something tasty for snack time at school or nourishment between a double shift waiting tables, ON THE GO BITES provides you with ideas beyond the peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Don’t get me wrong, the PB&J is a long time staple for a reason. But all of us want some variety in life.
